I'm Going to Where We Are?!

One Direction is coming to North America and I was looking forward to the simple fact that we would be in the same country as them, but as of today...my excitement is aimed at something greater!

A few weeks ago there was talk in my family that we would try to go to WWA but after a few struggles and roadblocks we decided that we weren't going to go...for personal reasons.

A few days ago, I really started thinking about the type of experience I would be missing out on. One Direction in a stadium!

So I brought the topic up again at dinner time...a day passed with careful consideration and planning, and today...wellllll...

I am SO BEYOND excited...like it hasn't even hit me...I know it's happening and I know I'm going to see them but it feels almost surreal, which I guess happens whenever there is someone you really want to see and know there is no chance you'll ever see again and then BOOM one thing leads to another and next thing you know it your clearing your schedule because you've bought tickets to the show you've been dying to see.

This won't be the first time I get the opportunity to watch the 1D guys grace the stage, I saw them twice in 2012, which was quite strange since I'd never been to a concert before and it was a double whammy, no one ever comes to my state as often as some performers have been recently, of course, I'm not complaining!
The show is August 9th in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Which does mean my family and I will have to travel quite the distance, but it's all good. I am soooooo grateful to be given the chance to see One Direction again, and 5 Seconds of Summer for the first time!

No brag, no brag, because I'll be taking you guys with me!

I'll take some videos of the concert and take a load of pictures and make a post about my ENTIRE experience and all the emotions and excitement of the day!

I CANNOT wait for this day. Not long now, I hope you look out for the post!

love, J

Everyone Has Their Own Shine

I was watching 5 Seconds of Summer on the Today Show today, and I was so excited I woke up at 7 in the morning so I wouldn't miss a thing.

I've been a fan of One Direction for a long time now, they've been my absolute favorites from the very beginning.

I respect both artists and love them both in a completely different ways because they are both completely different. Both groups have their own thing that makes them unique and well liked amongst the crowds of supporters.

This topic that I want to talk about has always bothered me, the media is always talking about the "next big thing" and who is going to replace someone/thing now that they've had their time to shine. That is something that I find completely unnecessary.

Everyone is their own person, doing their own thing, and most of the time, no one is trying to outdo each other. So why is the media and the fans always trying to outdo each other and have their favorites outdo others?

I know that it is a competition and it is a tough role to vote everyday up to the day of the award show to make absolute sure that your favorite(s) wins every single nomination they are up for, but why do you have to hate on the others?

This is something that we see all the time. We see it with actors and actresses, musicians, movies, everything.

One Direction have been on top of the world for a few years now, and their 4 year anniversary is tomorrow, crazy to think that these guys have been around for only four years when it seems like they've been going at it for a lifetime.

We all know that most of the world was introduced to 5SOS as One Direction's opening act on their "Take Me Home" tour, and then again on their "Where We Are" tour. This was an extremely important opportunity for 5SOS, as it has helped them boost the attention they were once receiving, of course their success is solely based on their talent (which they DO have).

So many opportunities have been lining up for 5 Seconds of Summer, award nominations and performances on incredibly important award shows and normal daytime shows, appearances on night shows. Everything seems to be leading in an extremely positive direction for 5 Seconds of Summer.

Today, on the Today Show, I was very disappointed to listen to some of their commentary. Things like "move over One Direction", "they'll be more famous than One Direction", the constant comparison of the two "they play their own instruments and they aren't just a pretty boy band"

I say, why can't we support everyone? Why does their only have to be one hot shot? Only one popular one? Only one that can have all our attention?
We see it with female artists all the time, how this one is trying to be the next so and so and how that one is trying to outdo this other one....ridiculous!

Like the drama with Fifth Harmony and Little Mix fans, because they are both girl groups....are you serious?! They are completely different and although they both came from XFactor, their stories, adventures and successes are completely different.

Twilight and Harry Potter, anyone? The drama there was another thing that gave me a constant headache.
"They're not even the same thing!" "They both have werewolves!"
"The last movie is being split in two!" "They're copying Deathly Hallows!"
Yet, Mockingjay of the Hunger Games series is being split in two and there is no accusation of imitation there...
Completely different book/movie franchises with completely different plots.

I'm a fan of Fifth Harmony and Little Mix, I'm a fan of Twilight and Harry Potter (also a major fan of the Hunger Games, November can't come soon enough!), just like I'm a fan of One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer.

It upsets me that people can't be accepting of more than one thing. Why can't we all just enjoy and complain if there is an actual reason to complain? There is usually never a justifiable reason for complaints, people find the most petty things to overanalyze and criticize.

I'm not saying that some people don't imitate others to try and reach the same level of success they have, because there are a few of those here and there, but when everyone is doing their own thing...?

One Direction are a boy band, 5 Seconds of Summer are a boy band, every boy (or man..?) that are in a band, are a boy band.
A boy band doesn't have a set meaning, everyone can put their own meaning to the word. You can be a boy band in any way you want, but if you are a young male....in a band....you're in a boy band. Then take it from there and call yourselves whatever else you consider yourselves, rock band, indie...etc.

That doesn't mean that you do coordinated dance moves and wear the same type of clothing. One Direction put their own meaning to boy band..everyone else can put their own meaning to it too.

Being in a boy band isn't a bad thing. Being different is what makes you, you.

So can we please stop shoving talent down when it's still at it's peak and just enjoy everyone? New or old, it's still amazing.

Keep an open mind to new things, and please, let's just....be nice. It doesn't cost you anything to keep mean comments to yourself!

I hope this all made sense..

love, J

16 July 2014

I used to have a few issues with myself when I was growing up, I suppose that's something that comes with puberty and growing.
As kids grow, they begin to question themselves and the person they really are, or want to become, compared to the person they thought they were.

This stage in life can be vital, just like all the other stages in life that help you grow, this stage helps a person understand themselves and accept the changes that are happening and the person they should be, or want to grow into.

It can become extremely difficult for a girl or boy to transition with ease, many find themselves struggling with their image or their changing appearance. Along with the change of physical appearance, there is a change in the mentality of these children. They become more aware of the people around them, the boys become more aware of the girls and the girls of the boys.

It isn't always only their peers influencing them, the media is known to influence the minds of people everywhere. Out of all of the media's targets, I find that the most affected targets are girls. All kinds of girls, little girls and young girls, teenage girls and on. The media manipulates the minds of girls, and makes them see things that aren't true, about other females, and themselves.

Many girls will flip the pages of a magazine, see an ad on television or enter a store and look around at all the ads that surround them. The models are perfect, their hair flowing in perfect waves or falling perfectly straight. Their body is perfectly thin and their clothing is pristine. They have flawless skin, not a blemish or flaw in sight. This can affect a girl in more ways then many people think, they look at these beautiful girls and then looking at themselves, they automatically think something isn't right with them because they don't look like the model in the ad.
This is one of the many, many things that can knock a girl's self-esteem.

If you've read some of my previous blog posts, it isn't the first time I mention girls and empowerment of the female population.

I am a strong believer of girl power, and I want girls to believe in themselves, I want them to look at themselves and love themselves, no matter what they look like. To know that they are capable of anything, because they are. You shouldn't have to try and convince or reassure a little girl that she can be anything she wants, she should know and grow up knowing and truly believing that she can be anything she wants when she sets her mind to it. Everyone is made differently, everyone has a different shape and appearance, everyone has different goals and aspirations.

Just like boys know they can enter anything and do it amazingly, girls should feel the same way. They shouldn't enter an activity and look around feeling threatened or inferior to the males surrounding them.

A girl's self esteem should be high, high, high. They should know how amazing they are, because it is vital to their progression and their life and achievements.

Dove is a supporter of empowering women and young girls everywhere. Their campaign is one of, if not the best, one I've seen. They released a video that should speak to you, this video is touching on a level I can't actually explain,

After watching this video, I realized how badly I want to help empower girls everywhere. It has been something on my mind for a year or so, but this just flicked the switch.

The young girls in the video are asked to do an activity "like a girl" and they just, do it. They do what they're told to do the way they would normally do it, or with extra strength and power. The older girls are told to the same thing and they react the same way as the boys react when told to do an activity "like a girl". They flail their arms around and make little noises, they do these activities portraying themselves as weak and incapable..."like a girl".

Since when did doing something like a girl make you unable? Why does doing something like a girl have to be a bad thing? Why does it make you weak and inferior to do something like a girl?

Being a girl is an amazing thing. Girls can do anything, girls have strength and drive.

If you're a girl, and you hate who you are, if you feel weak and like you're worth nothing, I want you to think, think of the things about you that you love. What in your personality makes you happy to be you? Do you like your eyes? Your hair? Your fashion sense? There has to be something about yourself that you love.

Empowering girls is an entire package, it isn't just about telling a girl she's beautiful the way she is or inspiring her and telling her she can do anything. It is so much more than that.

It takes steps, it's a journey, an adventure that I want all girls to embrace and experience.

Being a girl is not a bad thing at all. It's a gift.

Let's take this journey, this adventure of being a girl, together.

Alex & Sierra - Scarecrow Music Video

Okay, hello how's it going, let's get on with this because my emotions are all over the place thanks to Alex & Sierra.

They've released their music video for "Scarecrow" and OHMY.

I had a little trouble watching it, I had a literal emotion overload. I won't spoil it, I'll leave it below for you to watch and just...... *sigh*

This definitely beats their puppet lyric video, which was adorable don't get me wrong, but I honestly cannot deal with this video...ahhh!

I think I should have waited for a moment when my emotions would be a little more under control, this video is everything and more.

Also, make sure to pre-order their album (what?!) on Tuesday, July 15!!!

I am so excited for these two and their career, and I'm just so proud of them.

You go Alex & Sierra, you go!

Fifth Harmony - BO$$

"I pledge allegiance to my independent girls in here"

Smell that? It's the wonderful smell of girl power. Oh girl power, what would I do without you?
I love girl power so much, recall the Neon Lights Tour?

Fifth Harmony are getting ready to release their next single titled "BO$$" and I hope you're as excited as I am. They've been endlessly promoting it and all that good stuff, they're out and about getting their next single on everyone's radar.

They've released a few sneak peaks, that make me super excited for the song to finally come out. I've been waiting for Fifth Harmony music since Simon tweeted his followers if he should sign Fifth Harmony or not.
They went on to record and release "Miss Movin' On" (which in it's own bubblegum way was empowering) (of course bubblegum isn't bad at all) I think many 5H fans were expecting an album but nothing ever arrived...
Until their EP came out and "Me and My Girls" came out and so on and so forth.

Still waiting on an album, but finally "BO$$" is appearing to be Fifth Harmony's first single off their first album ever!! (ahhhhh!!!)

Obviously I've been a BIG fan since their XFactor days.
They honestly caught my eye the moment they were put together, then they went to the judges homes and I thought "Done, they've got me"

So, here are some little "BO$$" snippets that I hope will inspire you to preorder (before Monday 7/7)

mhm. oh yes. great.

They've also filmed the music video and it looks pretty different to their "Miss Movin' On" music video, these girls are maturing little by little and it's all happening before our eyes.

Catch the premiere of "BO$$" on Saturday Night Online at 10/9c, tomorrow night (!!!!!!!) and if you download the Shazam app and Shazam "BO$$" you'll unlock the music video a day before it's out (7/8).

The girls of Fifth Harmony will be on Kathy Lee and Hoda on Tuesday, and they will return to the Today Show for the Toyota Concert Series to perform "BO$$" for the first time, along with a few more songs.

So I hope this inspired you to go preorder "BO$$" here if you haven't. And if you have, how excited are you to finally listen to the song and watch the video?!
